This compact backyard came with a big wishlist. The client wanted to maximise every part of the space to include lawn and a play area for her children, a productive vegetable garden and orchard, and a patio for outdoor entertaining. Privacy from neighbours was important, but without losing valuable space, along with a shade tree to anchor the lawn.

Her favourite plant — Loropetalum chinense ‘Plum Gorgeous’ — inspired the complementary planting palette, which brings colour, texture, and seasonal interest to the garden beds. The design balances structure with softness, creating a practical layout that flows naturally despite the site’s small scale.
